West Yeo is a Domesday farm, formerly known as Red Down. An ongoing history project by the North Devon Archaelogical Society has already uncovered Mesolithic remains.
The red loam soil is excellent for growing arable organic crops to feed our pedigree Red Ruby Devon cattle, Leicester Longwool sheep and Oxford Sandy Black pigs to produce organic meats and textiles. Animals are slaughtered locally at Lapford and then come back to the farm butchery where meat is hung for up to five weeks for beef. Organic coloured wool is shorn annually and sent to Cornwall for spinning, woven products are manufactured in Wales and five hand-knitters work locally.
Animal welfare is a top priority. Conservation and biodiversity are very important and we guarantee a quality personal service.
Educational visits for all age groups and parties are catered for. We've even hosted French student chefs. Bed and breakfast is available with guided farm walks included.
